Even Incarcerated Eddy Lepp Continues to Fight for Patient Rights

The New Millennium has entered with an intensely loud ringing bang.  It brought with it a roar advocates forcing the hands of a seriously debated much heated subject of Marijuana.  Prohibition discussions or support for medicinal purposes this topic gets people talking.  Marijuana for Medicinal purposes is on the rise, but so are related arrests and prosecution “For the fourth year in a row, US marijuana arrests set an all-time record, according to 2006 FBI Uniform Crime Reports. Marijuana arrests in 2006 totaled 829,627, an increase from 786,545 in 2005”Censor.

President Obama continues to find himself on the hot seat of this movement by going against his 2008 election promise “that medical marijuana was an issue best left to state and local governments, “I’m not going to be using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue,” he vowed, promising an end to the Bush administration’s high-profile raids on providers of medical pot, which is legal in 16 states and the District of Columbia,” reports Rolling Stone Magazine.

This discussion continues to take America by storm.  The importance of this movement is a debate between life and death.  Scientifically and statistically comparing each other, Marijuana is life, and Prescription pain pills are equivalent to death:

  • LIFE = Marijuana “Dr. Nagarkatti and his team of researchers were one of the first labs to prove a cannabinoid key can seek out a cancerous cell in the immune system, unlock the receptor, and direct the cancer cell to self-destruct” PBS.
  • DEATH = Prescription pain pills “The abuse and overuse of prescription painkillers and sedatives have become a major medical issue as the rate of overdose deaths from these drugs increased by a staggering 124 percent” ABC.

The statistics do not lie they speak loud for themselves.  Advocates believe that it is important and that truth will bring awareness to this very important movement.  During a time when financial responsibility rings clear it makes no sense to continue the war against a harmless herb, “After 40 years, $1 trillion, US War on Drugs has failed to meet any of its goals” Fox News

This movement is more than just a few pot heads trying to get a free pass to get stoned.  The important issue is that people are debating are factual and science validates that CBD and THC components of Marijuana are healing alternatives.  Hemp and Marijuana and the CBD, THC components save lives, heal aches and pains, are none addictive, reduce oxidative stress, cures cancer, act as a power anti-inflammatory and marijuana has never killed a single person.

The truth rings louder than ever due to the recent rise in deaths from the abuse of prescription pain pills.  Michael Jackson, Anna Nicole Smith, and Whitney Houston are just a few of the prescription drug statistics.  The fact that prescription drugs are deadly “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found nearly 40 Americans die per day, about 15,000 per year from overdoses of painkillers such as Vicodin and OxyContin, eclipsing the number of deaths caused by heroin and cocaine combined” ABC News.

America is starting to wake up and ask questions.  We want to know why is it that people continue to be arrested, convicted, and serve long term sentences because of marijuana?  Marijuana is not deadly.  Synthetics are and it is proven that weed has never killed one single person.  Media outlets report that synthetic drug addictions are “Up 400 Percent in Last Decade” ABC Health.  Overwhelming “Statistics show the abuse of prescription painkillers has been on the rise for nearly two decades” ABC Health.

Amazing statistics considering that not a single person that works for any of these pharmaceutical companies has ever been arrested, trial or convicted of murder, or abuse of any kind.  Innocent people are losing their lives for choosing none synthetic alternatives for their pain.  People are convicted and sentenced because they believe that this innocent herb is God’s medicine.  This medicine helps them deal with their chronic conditions.  The problem remains that “Federal law prohibits marijuana for any purpose, even in states which have legalized its medicinal use. The appeals court upheld Patel’s refusal to allow Lepp to use his religion as a defense to the charges, ruling his prosecution was due to the government’s “compelling interest in preventing diversion of sacramental marijuana to non-religious users” Toke of Town.

People want a choice, one that doesn’t destroy them from the inside out but rather one that heals them.  People want the right to choose their own way to medicate.  Marijuana is not deadly or addicting and the government has gone as far as creating a synthetic form of Marijuana known as Marinol to duplicate Marijuana.  This failed to produce the same effect as God’s herb.  Basically, the government wanted to copy God, and they were not successful.  People continue to face persecution, prosecution, and sentencing because they choose to heal themselves naturally instead of with a manufactured medicine.

The people are voicing their desire, and the federal government does not know how to handle the call.

  • Medical Marijuana Laws, Fees, and Possession Limits 16 States recognize this harmless herb as a beneficial medicinal apothecary.
  • 18 States with Pending Legislation to Legalize Medical Marijuana (as of Mar. 8, 2012)

The story of Eddy Lepp continues to spread across the nation bringing prohibition, and political sand bagging to the forefront.  We have come so far with progress toward prohibition.  People like Eddy Lepp have made it possible for more people to make the choice between a nutritiously beneficial, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory herb, or continue killing your body with harmful synthetics.  Marijuana continues to be scrutinized and not acknowledged as useful by the Federal Government.  People like Eddy Lepp are making a stand and they are doing it to protect the rights of this valuable medicine that the Federal Government does not want us to have.

People are standing up and shouting at the top their lungs but is it falling on deaf ears.  We believe that “Locking up Eddy Lepp serves no purpose and is a huge waste of life and scarce prison space,” said Aaron Smith, California policy director of the Marijuana Policy Project. “The community would be a lot better served if we taxed and regulated California’s $14 billion marijuana industry rather than continuing to incarcerate non-violent people like Eddy, who are clearly of no danger to society.” Green Aid.  Thrust into the media when “A federal appeals court on Wednesday upheld the conviction and 10-year prison sentence of Charles “Eddy” Lepp, who grew 32,000 marijuana plants for patients and fellow Rastafarians on his land in Lake County, California” Toke of The Town.

If they are going to prosecute for a medicinally beneficial herb, shouldn’t they criminalize deadly synthetics?
